THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE GETTING A COCKATIEL

Having a Cockatiel bird takes a lot of patience, a lot of attention, your time, it’s basically like having a baby, so there are pretty much seven main things you need to know and consider before deciding to get a cockatiel.

1) YOU NEED TO SPEND A LOT OF TIME WITH THEM

Keep in mind that cockatiels can’t be left alone for not more than four hours. If you have just one bird, they’re going to bond to just you, so they’re going to seek your attention. They’re going to want you in the room constantly with them. They’re going to scream for you if you’re not around If they end up creating a bond with you.

So you need to consider that you need to spend time with them. If you get two or more Cockatiel, they will bond to each other, but you still need to spend that time with them.

2) SUPPLIES

There are a few extra things aside from the cage and the toys you have to get a cockatiel like. For example, if you live in places that get cold or there’s not enough sunlight, you have to get an Avian light bulb. Avian light bulbs have UVA and UVB, which helps the bird synthesize their calcium need and vitamin D3.

3) THEY NEED A LOT OF CARE

They’re going to be a time for four or six weeks where sometimes, very early in the morning or any time during the day, your cockatiel birds will start screaming for your attention, and you have to take care of them.

At starting you have to wake up early with them and put them to bed in the nighttime. You are going to have to put them in a quiet room. You’re also not going to be able to leave the house as much as you wanted to because these pets are for those people who stay at home.

4) YOU NEED TO ADJUST YOUR HOME

You need to adjust your home unless you’re going to clip Cockatiel’s wings for precaution. I would recommend never leaving ceiling fans on, especially in the rooms they’re in. If you let them out of their cage, you have to make sure that all doors & windows are closed.

Cockatiels are not cold birds they need a warm room, so your going to have to be prepared that even in the summer, you can’t turn on the AC in your room If you have Cockatiel in it.

Also, keep in mind that cockatiels have night fright that means that during the night, they’re going to get pretty spooked and panic if it’s completely pitch dark, so you gonna need to make sure that there is some night light coming into the room.

5) EVERY COCKATIEL HAS DIFFERENT BEHAVIOR

Every Cockatiel has a particular behavior not all of them are the same so keep in mind that some cockatiels are more nervous than others, some are more curious than others. You have to get to know your Cockatiel bird because they’re not all made the same, just like us human beings.

Some of them might adjust quicker to different environments, and some of them may not, some of them scream more, some of them are pretty quiet, some of them just love to play with toys, and some just don’t so just get to know your Cockatiel if you decide to get one take your time and really pay attention to small details.

When you first bring your Cockatiel home, you have to make sure that they are in good health condition, so it’s always a great idea to bring them to the vet immediately and get them a general checkup because a lot of times, they could be carrying a disease that you don’t know. You need to take them to the vet at least once or twice a year just to make sure that everything is ok with them.

8) COCKATIEL’S REQUIRE DAILY CLEANING

Cockatiel are not clean they are so messy, they drop feathers everywhere when they shake dust just flies in the air, and they like to throw their food onto the ground when they poop they might not poop where you want them to they’re really messy.
